Acceptable Use Policy
A community only works when everyone plays fair. This is what we expect from every member. Last updated 2025.
Why This Exists
Music United is built for artists, listeners, DJs, and radio stations who want a fair, honest space for music. This policy exists to protect that space — not to restrict creativity, but to make sure everyone can create, discover, and share without fear of abuse.
These rules apply to all content you upload, all messages you send, and all interactions you have on the platform.
What’s Welcome
- Original music, remixes you have permission to share, and bootlegs clearly labelled as such
- Blog posts about your music, your process, your community, and the independent music scene
- Constructive feedback, genuine engagement, and collaborative discussion
- Live broadcasts — DJ sets, acoustic sessions, rehearsals, whatever you want to share
- Events — gigs, listening parties, meet-ups, community gatherings
- Using the developer API to build tools, integrations, and creative projects
What’s Not Allowed
Copyright infringement
Do not upload music, artwork, or other content you do not have the right to distribute. If you are sharing a remix or bootleg, it must be clearly labelled and you must have the necessary permissions. We take copyright seriously — it protects the artists this platform exists to serve.
Harassment and abuse
Do not harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate other members. This includes direct messages, public comments, chat rooms, and any other communication channel on the platform. Hate speech based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any other characteristic is not tolerated.
Spam and manipulation
Do not use bots, scripts, or automated tools to inflate play counts, followers, or engagement metrics. Do not send unsolicited promotional messages. Do not create multiple accounts to manipulate the platform.
Malicious activity
Do not attempt to access other users' accounts, bypass security measures, or exploit vulnerabilities. Do not distribute malware or harmful files. If you discover a security issue, report it to the team — do not exploit it.
Illegal content
Do not upload or share any content that is illegal under the laws of England and Wales. This includes but is not limited to content that promotes violence, terrorism, child exploitation, or fraud.
Impersonation
Do not pretend to be another person, artist, or organisation. Parody and tribute accounts must be clearly labelled as such.
What Happens If You Break the Rules
We are not looking for reasons to ban people. If something goes wrong, we will talk to you first. Our process is:
- Warning — we contact you, explain the issue, and ask you to fix it.
- Content removal — if the content violates these rules, we may remove it and explain why.
- Temporary suspension — for repeated or serious violations, your account may be temporarily restricted.
- Permanent removal — reserved for the most serious cases: illegal activity, sustained harassment, or deliberate harm to the platform or its members.
In cases of clear illegal activity or imminent harm, we may skip straight to removal without prior notice, as required by law.
You can always appeal a decision by contacting the team through the Support page.
Reporting a Problem
If you see content or behaviour that violates these rules, let us know. You can report issues through the Support page. All reports are reviewed by the team and handled confidentially.
We will never reveal who reported an issue to the person being reported.
