For Artists
Artist Agreement
Your music stays yours. This is what we promise, what we provide, and what we ask in return. Last updated 2025.
What We Promise You
As an artist on Music United, you have our word on the following:
- You own your music. We never claim any intellectual property rights over your work.
- Every penny from audio sales goes to you. Music United takes zero commission.
- Audio is priced transparently at 10p per megabyte — the real cost of storage and delivery. Nothing is added on top.
- Your engagement data is yours. We never sell, package, or share your analytics with third parties.
- We will never use your music to train AI models, license your catalogue to third parties, or monetise your content without your explicit consent.
- You can remove your music and delete your account at any time. No lock-in, no exit fees, no penalties.
What You Get
Free Tier
A public artist profile, unlimited blog posts, and a community page with member and artist chat. No cost, no time limit.
Artist Pro (£5/mo)
Everything in the free tier, plus: audio hosting (100 GB storage), music streaming with play tracking, live broadcasting, event creation and ticketing, engagement analytics, social connectors, content distribution, and access to the audio marketplace where listeners buy your tracks directly.
Delivery
Streaming and downloads are completely free for artists. We cover all delivery costs. Your music plays fast and sounds great — and it costs you nothing to share it with the world.
What We Ask in Return
- Only upload music you own or have explicit permission to distribute.
- Label bootlegs and remixes honestly — use the bootleg flag when uploading.
- If you opt in to licence-free, understand that DJs and radio stations can play your tracks without additional permission or royalty payments.
- Keep your profile information accurate and up to date.
- Follow the community guidelines in the Acceptable Use Policy.
- Do not use the platform to infringe on other artists' rights.
Licence-Free Music
When you flag a track as licence-free, you are giving DJs and radio stations with a Music United membership permission to play it publicly — at gigs, on air, in sets — without paying additional royalties or seeking separate permission.
This is entirely opt-in. You choose which tracks, if any, to make licence-free. You can change this setting at any time from your audio management page.
Licence-free does not mean giving up ownership. You still own the copyright. You still receive revenue from listener purchases. You are simply removing the broadcast licensing barrier so your music can be played more widely.
Broadcasters who play your licence-free tracks are required to log when and where they played them, so you can see your music's reach in your engagement dashboard.
How You Get Paid
When a listener purchases your track, the entire purchase amount goes to you via Stripe. Music United takes zero commission — not now, not ever. That is the Gatekeeper's Pledge.
Stripe's payment processing fees are currently deducted from the transaction by Stripe directly. We are actively working towards a fixed-fee arrangement to eliminate per-transaction costs entirely (see Roadmap — Zero Transaction Fees).
Event ticket revenue works the same way — the price you set is the price the listener pays, and the full amount reaches you.
If You Want to Leave
You can cancel your subscription and delete your account at any time. There are no lock-in periods, no exit fees, and no penalties.
When you delete your account, we remove your profile, your uploaded audio, your blog posts, and all associated data from our servers. Tracks that listeners have already purchased remain in their libraries — a purchase is permanent.
If your subscription lapses, your existing content stays accessible to listeners but you lose the ability to upload new content or access pro features until you resubscribe.
