Terms of Service

Plain English. What you can do, what we promise, and how the platform works. Last updated 2025.

Overview

The Short Version

Music United is a community platform for artists and listeners. By using it, you agree to these terms. They are written in plain English because we believe legal documents should be understandable.

  • You must be 16 or older to create an account.
  • You own your music. We never claim rights to anything you upload.
  • We run at cost and take no profit — that is a permanent commitment.
  • You can delete your account and all your data at any time.
  • We will never sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • If we change these terms, we will tell you directly and give you time to review.
Section 1

Your Account

When you create an account on Music United, you are responsible for keeping your login details secure. You must provide accurate information during sign-up. One person, one account — shared or automated accounts are not permitted.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Music United. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf.

You can delete your account at any time from your dashboard. When you do, we delete your profile, your uploaded content, and all associated data. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Section 2

Your Content

You own everything you upload. Music United does not claim any intellectual property rights over your music, artwork, blog posts, or any other content. When you upload content, you grant us a limited licence to host, deliver, and display it on the platform — nothing more.

You confirm that you have the right to upload and distribute any content you publish. If you upload music, you confirm that you are the copyright holder or have permission from the copyright holder.

We will never use your content for our own commercial purposes, sell access to your catalogue to third parties, or use your music to train machine learning models.

If you delete your content or your account, we remove it from our servers. Copies that listeners have already purchased remain theirs — a purchase is permanent.

Section 3

Payments & Pricing

All payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details — Stripe handles all payment security.

Subscriptions are billed monthly. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. When you cancel, your subscription continues until the end of the current billing period, then stops. No exit fees.

Audio purchases are priced at a flat rate per megabyte — the real cost of storing and delivering the file. Every penny of the purchase price goes to the artist. Music United takes nothing.

Event tickets are non-transferable digital tickets tied to the buyer's account. Refund requests are handled case by case — contact the team through the support page.

Prices are displayed in GBP as the base currency. Where local currency conversions are shown, they are estimates based on current exchange rates.

Section 4

The Gatekeeper Commitment

Music United operates at cost and takes no profit. This is not a marketing claim — it is a structural commitment built into how the platform works.

Subscription fees fund platform operations: hosting, storage, delivery, and payment processing. Any surplus from patron subscriptions goes into the Patron Fund to finance live events and support local charities.

We publish our costs and revenue on the Transparency page so you can verify this for yourself.

Section 5

Acceptable Use

Use Music United for what it is built for — sharing music, discovering artists, attending events, and being part of a creative community. Do not use the platform to:

  • Upload content you do not have the right to distribute
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other members
  • Scrape, bot, or automate access to the platform
  • Attempt to circumvent payment, auth, or security systems
  • Distribute malware or any harmful content
  • Impersonate another person or organisation

We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these rules. We will always tell you why and give you a chance to respond, except in cases of clear abuse or legal obligation.

For full details, see the Acceptable Use Policy.

Section 6

Liability & Disclaimers

Music United is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep the platform reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We are a small team running at cost — downtime happens, and we fix it as fast as we can.

We are not liable for content uploaded by users, disputes between buyers and sellers, or any losses arising from service interruptions. We do not provide legal, financial, or tax advice.

Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid to Music United in the 12 months before the claim.

Section 7

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will notify registered users by email and post a notice on the platform at least 30 days before the change takes effect.

If you continue to use Music United after the updated terms take effect, you accept the new terms. If you disagree, you can delete your account at any time.

Section 8

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in full effect.
